About Foshan

Where to stay in Foshan

For a first or short trip, base yourself in Chancheng — the central, walkable, best-connected district, where the Ancestral Temple and most sights sit around Zumiao metro. Pick Shunde instead if the trip is mainly about food. The outlying districts are better as day trips than as bases.

Common questions

Where should I stay in Foshan for a short trip?
Stay in Chancheng, the central city seat. The Ancestral Temple, Lingnan Tiandi and most sights cluster around Zumiao metro station, and the Guangfo Line runs straight into Guangzhou.
Where should I stay if I'm coming for the food?
Choose Shunde. It's a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy and the heartland of the cooking most food travellers come for, reachable by the Guangfo Line and Guangzhou Metro Line 7.
Should I stay in Foshan or Guangzhou?
Either works — the two cities are effectively one metro area. Stay in Chancheng if Foshan's sights and food are your focus; the Guangfo Line links you to Guangzhou in about an hour.
